About
FUTURE ANTERIOR transforms the gallery into a speculative space where scales, temporalities, and forms of existence collide. The project continues an international exchange between Durden and Ray and Rosalux, first established in Berlin in 2024 and now returning to their dialogue after a collaboration with Nixxxon in Mexico City in 2025. This iteration further explores science fiction and the imagining of possible futures.
The exhibition brings together works at two extremes: miniatures measuring no more than five inches in any dimension and monumental works measuring at least five feet in one dimension. Nothing in between. By removing the human-scale middle, the exhibition disrupts familiar proportions and asks what happens when the body is no longer the measure of the world.
Artists are invited to consider scale beyond physical measurement through geological and evolutionary time, cultural memory, technological change, ecological transformation, and imagined futures. Works may appear ancient, alien, microscopic, monumental, archaeological, futuristic, intimate, or impossible. Drawing on speculative and posthuman thought, science fiction, and the ways AI constructs futures from fragments of the past, the gallery becomes a time machine where histories return, mutate, and become something else.
Durden and Ray
Founded in 2009, Durden and Ray is comprised of artist/curators who work together to create exhibition opportunities at their downtown Los Angeles gallery as well as in concert with artist groups and gallery spaces around the world.
Durden and Ray concentrates on small, tightly curated group shows at the gallery, organized by the members, and hosts international artists as part of a commitment to global exchange and alternative networks. The Durden and Ray model expressly overlaps multiple strategies, including the commercial potential and visual identity of a gallery, the democratic structure of an artist group, the potential to create collaborative works of art in the manner of a collective, and the shared fiscal support of its programs by group members and project partners similar to a nonprofit organization.
Durden and Ray is committed both to individual praxis and to shared aims of curatorial experimentation, visual research, and artistic exchange with international partners.
ROSALUX
ROSALUX is a project space with a strong interdisciplinary and international orientation that has been firmly rooted in Berlin for more than 15 years. It is named after Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, an interface between creative districts. Rosa Luxemburg’s courage and commitment to a fairer society have been a growing inspiration.
ROSALUX believes in:
the inter- and transdisciplinary dialogue
the transformative potential of art and (post)humanism
the artist-led approach to worldbuilding, planetary health and futurity
the artist/curator as an inspiring emancipating force
artistic diplomacy to promote inclusion, solidarity, cooperation and encounter.
ROSALUX is a polyphonic and inclusive space for work, exchange and presentation. A place for questioning, collective imagination and decentring. A place for art research, new methodologies and artistic languages. A space offering visibility to artistic practices off the beaten track.
NIXXXON
NIXXXON is an independent contemporary art space in Mexico City dedicated to the research, development, and exhibition of work by local and international artists. Founded in 2015, it supports emerging and established artists, curators, and cultural practitioners through solo and group exhibitions. Its flexible program critically examines how contemporary art is produced, exhibited, distributed, and encountered by audiences. The gallery’s exhibitions foster dialogue around urgent cultural and social concerns, including the politics of the body, environmental habitability, migration, and history. Since 2021, NIXXXON has presented more than twenty exhibitions and has received Curatorial Projects Support from the Patronato de Arte Contemporáneo in both 2023 and 2024.
