About

The two faces of the wall are symbolic of its two-faced character. From one side, a wall is a tool of division, oppression, and isolation. From the other, it provides safety, maintains community, and establishes inclusion. The face that one sees is determined by context, orientation, and history. In the political context, a concrete wall can be seen as a tool of oppression. In the biological context, the wall of the skin is seen as a barrier keeping us safe from the outside environment.

The works in Sobre Muros explore the complexities of the two-faced wall in a diversity of contexts: infrastructure, borders, bodies, and movement. Overall, Sobre Muros investigates the conceptual richness of the wall while highlighting the ways that walls affect us both physically and psychically.

SCOTTY

Founded in 2006 in the smallest house in Berlin-Kreuzberg, SCOTTY is an independent, artist-run project space led by eight visual artists. It functions as an open platform for exhibitions, performances, and film programmes that engage with social and cultural-political issues. Operating outside the commercial art market, SCOTTY emphasizes artistic autonomy, collective decision-making, and non-hierarchical collaboration. In addition to its local programming, SCOTTY initiates national and international partnerships, promoting visibility and exchange among autonomous art spaces.
