About

What does the eye in the sky see?

From a 10,000-foot bird’s eye view to a single blade of grass, Eye in the Sky considers landscapes—actual, virtual, mythological, imagined, sensed, abstracted, extracted.

Perhaps looking at landscape—whether from a satellite or a camera lens—is always all of the above. Surveying is surveilling; the virtual is also actual, realities are layered, sedimentary.

Landscapes enter the process of imagination and re-imagination as they are being observed, and in turn, abstracted and extracted from, whether or not anything physical is being removed.

Literal and implied landscapes are presented without the artifice of coherent curatorial logic. This show brings a collective, overlapping, asynchronous collaboration, where we build through loose thematic association, forming emergent territories from the contours of landscapes that exist only in our memories.

The format of this exhibition bespeaks the blurriness of maps, of the layering of perspectives, of tectonic shifts, and of out-of-focus faraways.

We subvert surveillance technology designed to surveil, track and hunt, retraining the gaze of these data weapons towards human stories, in an attempt to find meaning in what these all seeing tools show us, finding sense in the sensors.

SAP Space

SAP Space is a project space that thinks about the garden as an expanded topic, in that the garden is both a physical and conceptual space, and offers a springboard into considerations in naturecultures. The space is in the Hinterhof of a Neukölln Altbau, and includes a small single-story building and the garden within which it sits. Taking a cue from the rhythm of the seasons, SAP Space hosts exhibitions, performances, and workshops from April until October, and hibernates in the Winter months.
