On October 23, Venice Ether, a solo show of works by Juri Koll, opens at El Hub , Calle de Mesones 86, Centro Histórico de la Cdad. de México, Centro, Cuauhtémoc, 06090 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico in Gallery 13. An LA presentation of B-LA-M curated by Max Presniell of the Torrance Art Museum, which conceived of and is sponsoring the event. The individual work is curated by Tracy Windham of the Venice Institute of Contemporary Art.
Juri Koll’s works are a running series of abstract stories of shape in vibrant color field, large scale paintings (generally watercolor and dye on canvas) as if film strips projected into the ether as on a cave wall. Dynamic saturated color is sacred for the artist, accompanied by motifs such as a broken surf fin from a wipeout, a horse and rider fragment from a Chumash cave painting, or uplifted slabs of rock in the desert of California. A recurring signature painted from right to left dominates the compositions along with the riotous color, in the shape of a wave crashing on the beach or middle eastern calligraphy. .

Bio:
Juri Koll (b. 1961) has exhibited widely for 50 years, at Long Beach Museum of Art, Museum of Art and History, The Kitchen (NYC), Torrance Art Museum, Venice Institute of Contemporary Art, Art + Practice, BG Gallery, MTA Gallery, Area Contesa Arte (Rome), Palazzo Iacobucci (Frosinone, Italy), Fahle Gallery and Tartu Art House (Estonia), Photo LA, LA Art Show, Cameravision, Muzeumm, Temporary Space LA, LA Louver, Cal Arts, UC, San Diego, and many others.
His film artwork is in the collection of the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, The University of New Mexico Art Museum, Brown University, College of DuPage Library, Corvallis Public Library, McAlester College, and Trinity University and many others.
He is a director/producer of award winning films, which have appeared in over 80 festivals, and numerous international streaming services. He is the Founder/Director of the Fine Arts Film Festival, now in it’s 13th year.
He resides in Venice Beach and loves to surf and watch colors and shapes change in the sun.

Las obras de Juri Koll son una serie continua de historias abstractas de forma en vibrantes campos de color, pinturas a gran escala (generalmente acuarela y tinte sobre lienzo) como si fueran tiras de película proyectadas en el éter, como en la pared de una cueva. El color saturado y dinámico es sagrado para el artista, acompañado de motivos como una aleta de surf rota tras un accidente, un fragmento de caballo y jinete de una pintura rupestre chumash o losas de roca levantadas en el desierto de California.
